Jamaica: Kit Delivered to Support Community Football in Spanish Town

Why this matters I’m really proud to share that SeakAid has recently sent sports equipment to Jamaica to support young people in Spanish Town, St Catherine’s — communities where many families are facing significant hardship and limited access to basic resources.

When we talk about “kit”, we’re not just talking about boots and shirts. We’re talking about dignity, confidence, and the simple ability to turn up and feel included. In some of these communities, young people can arrive at a session with nothing at all — no shorts, no socks, no equipment — because their parents are having to prioritise essentials like food and day-to-day survival.

That’s exactly why we do what we do.

Who we’re supporting: Joga Bonito Football Academy This shipment is supporting Joga Bonito Football Academy, who are currently delivering Community Football coaching programmes across:

·      Tawes Pen

·      Ellerslie Pen

·      Irish Pen These are communities in Spanish Town, St Catherine’s, Jamaica, where access to structured sport and safe spaces can make a real difference.

What the programme delivers

Joga Bonito’s Community Football Coaching Programmes work with young people aged 6–17 years old. The aim is clear and powerful:

·      Engage young people in positive activities

·      Help divert young people away from crime and violence

·      Provide a safe space to move, play, and build routine

·      Support physical exercise, wellbeing, and confidence

For many young people, simply having the right kit removes a major barrier to participation. It helps them feel part of the group — and that feeling of belonging can be life-changing.

Proof of what’s possible

One of the things I love about grassroots football is that you never know where talent will come from when young people are given the chance.

Right now, Joga Bonito have a young person from Ellerslie Pen who is a member of the Jamaica National U17 Team — and the team has qualified for the U17 World Cup in Qatar this year.

That’s a huge achievement, and it’s a reminder of what can happen when communities are supported with the basics: coaching, consistency, encouragement, and access.
