Celebrating the Black History Cup 2025: Empowering Girls and Building Community Through Football

On Saturday, 25th October 2025, Leatherhead Youth Football Club will come alive with the spirit of sport, inclusion, and community as the Black History Cup 2025 takes centre stage. This Football & Community Celebration, spearheaded by London Vets Ballerz and SeakAid, is more than just a tournament—it's a vibrant showcase of how football can break down barriers and create opportunities for all. Spotlight on Girls' Football: Powered by the Barclays Community Sport Fund

This year, we are especially proud to highlight the support of the Barclays Community Sport Fund, being delivered in partnership with Sported. Their generous grant is helping us drive greater engagement in girls' football, ensuring that more young women have the chance to play, compete, and thrive on the pitch. The Women’s U16s showcase game, kicking off at 9:00am between Leatherhead Women and Actonians LFC, sets the tone for a day dedicated to inclusion and opportunity.

Football for All Ages and Backgrounds

The Black History Cup 2025 features a full day of football, with matches for Women’s U16s, Super Vets 50+, Senior Vets 35+, and Over 18s. From the first whistle at 9:00am to the final medal presentation and after-party, the event celebrates the diversity and unity that football brings to our communities. All games will be played on a state-of-the-art 4G pitch, with medals for winners and runners-up, and plenty of fun for everyone—including a live DJ and Caribbean food stalls.

Community Kit Drive: Give Your Old Kit a New Home

Alongside the action on the pitch, SeakAid is running a Community Kit Drive. We invite all attendees to bring pre-loved sports equipment and kit, helping us ensure that no young person is left on the sidelines due to lack of resources. Your donations will support our mission to empower disadvantaged and neurodivergent youth in the UK and Caribbean.

Thank You to Our Sponsors and Partners

We are deeply grateful to all our sponsors and partners whose commitment and generosity make the Black History Cup 2025 possible. Special thanks go to the Barclays Community Sport Fund (our main grant supporter), delivered in partnership with Sported. We also extend our appreciation to London Vets Ballerz, SPJ Contracting, Core Digital Printers, 100 Black Men of London, Middlesex County FA, Creative Alliance, Kick It Out, London Football Association, and The FA. Their collective support not only powers this event but also strengthens our ongoing mission to create opportunities and drive positive change for young people through sport.

Creative Alliance Apprenticeship: Grow Your Club, Empower Young Talent

Is your football club looking to shape the next generation, and get the support they need to go to the next level. Creative Alliance specialise in Creative, Digital and Marketing apprenticeships. By hosting an apprentice, your club benefits from fresh ideas and digital skills that can boost your presence and outreach, while also providing hands-on experience and mentoring that helps young people build confidence, work-readiness, and a sense of belonging. It’s a chance to directly support youth development and strengthen your club’s impact in the community. If you’re interested in learning more, let’s connect about how your club can get involved.

Looking Ahead: The FA’s Role in Attracting Diverse Talent

As we celebrate the progress made, we also see opportunities for The Football Association (FA) to further maximise its efforts. By working in partnership with grassroots organisations like SeakAid, and supporting initiatives that target underrepresented groups, the FA can help attract a more diverse talent pool and create a truly inclusive future for football. We encourage continued collaboration to ensure every young person, regardless of background or ability, has access to the beautiful game.
